Income Taxes and Liability

As we approach tax season, we need to remind our families about the importance of keeping their W-2s and 1099s safe. These documents are essential for filing taxes:

  • W-2: This form is provided by your employer and shows how much money you earned and the taxes withheld from your paycheck.

  • 1099: This form reports income you received outside of regular employment, such as bank interest, freelance work or other earnings.

Everyone working or earing money in the US is legally required to file taxes.

Eastern Maine CA$H provides tax filing assistance at Penquis in Bangor. You need to go online and sign up for an appointment.

You may get questions about whether the IRS is now sharing information with ICE.  The short answer is yes, under certain circumstances they are or have been, although the courts continue to hear cases and assess this issue. You can read more about the current and constantly changing situation on many websites including the following: FoxRothchild and the Economic Policy Institute
