Maine Harvest Bucks Program

https://www.maineharvestbucks.org/about/about-maine-harvest-bucks

When you use your SNAP EBT card at an approved farmers’ market, you earn bonus bucks in the form of tokens (either wooden or paper tokens) to buy additional fruit and vegetables, either the same day or a later date. Currently, you receive 50% of what you spend at the farmers’ market in Harvest Bucks. So if you spend $20 in SNAP benefits, you will receive $10 in Harvest Bucks tokens. This summer you may be able to earn as much as 100% in Harvest Bucks tokens.  Ask at the farmers’ market information booth about the current benefit.

for further information on how the program works.

**When you go to the farmers’ market, always stop at the information booth first.

There are 2 possible ways to use SNAP the Maine Harvest Bucks at the Farmer’s Market.

  1. Pick up a shopping sheet. Then as you shop at the market, vendors will write on the sheet what you have bought. Return to the information booth to check out using your SNAP EBT card and receive your Harvest Bucks (as wooden or paper tokens)
  2. Decide how much you would like to spend at the farmers’ market. Your card will be swiped for that amount, and you will get SNAP tokens to use at the market. You will get additional tokens or vouchers for the bonus Harvest Bucks.  Tokens and vouchers can be spent that day or another day.

TIP: Some shoppers will use their SNAP benefits to buy meat and dairy products at the farmers’ market and then use their Harvest Bucks to buy fruit and vegetables.
